Better Than Crunches

I was reading from Mike that crunches are not as effective on helping you gain six packs as most people would think. The part that caught my eye was that crunches tend to cause pain in the lower back if your back is weak and could cause neck pain if you do them wrong.(people tend to pull on their neck when crunching) Now I've noticed this problem for me now that age is catching up with me....

So what to do?

Do a stability ball roll out. Get on your knees (on a mat or doubled up towel for cushion) with hands resting on the ball (about a foot or so) in front of you. Lower yourself down on the ball, rolling it forward with hands in the same position. Return to your starting position. Do that ten times. You should feel it in the abs, arms, back and sides. Great core builder and a good start!

Try to do a plank on the ball. You're working out your abs even more because of the balancing that you are doing.

There's more. But these will be a great start and they are better than crunches when working for your six pack abs. For a great program, check out http://www.abstruthnow.com
